Middle School | Years 7–9
As a Prep–Year 12 independent school, Kimberley College offers a connected learning journey from Primary through to Senior School.
The Middle School for students in Year 7 - 9, supports adolescents through personalised learning, strong pastoral care and a balanced approach to academic growth and wellbeing.
Middle School at Kimberley College offers a supportive and enriching experience, guiding students through the important transition from childhood to adolescence. In Years 7 to 9, students are encouraged to grow in confidence, independence and self-belief, supported by strong relationships and a genuine sense of belonging in a safe and inclusive learning environment where wellbeing and learning go hand in hand.
This is a time to explore, practice and stretch, within a safe and inclusive environment where learning and wellbeing go hand in hand.
A strong foundation for senior learning
Middle School learning focuses on building a strong foundation for success in senior secondary school and beyond. Clear structures and consistent expectations support students as they develop organisation, responsibility and positive learning habits.
Students are guided to:
- strengthen literacy, numeracy and critical thinking
- build independence while still feeling supported
- develop curiosity, creativity and confidence in learning
- begin exploring their strengths and interests
Learning that balances challenge and care
Learning in the middle years balances academic growth with creativity and inquiry. Students are encouraged to ask questions, take risks in their learning and view mistakes as opportunities for growth, supported by teachers who know them well and hold high yet nurturing expectations. This approach helps students build resilience, confidence and a strong sense of capability as learners.
Belonging and wellbeing
Belonging and wellbeing are central to the Middle School experience. Strong pastoral care structures prioritise emotional wellbeing, respectful relationships and connection.
Our approach helps students:
- feel safe, known and valued
- develop emotional awareness and resilience
- build positive friendships and communications skills
- navigate the social and personal changed of adolescence
Opportunities beyond the classroom.
Learning extends beyond the classroom through a wide range of co-curricular opportunities including sport, the arts, clubs and service activities. These experiences support teamwork, leadership and confidence, helping students develop a sense of contribution to the wider Kimberley College community.
Growing towards the senior years
All students in Year 9 participate in a special program: Rites of Passage. Based on the work of Dr. Arne Rubinstein, our Rites of Passage framework is embedded into the College curriculum and is designed to support teenagers as they navigate the challenges of transitioning from children into young adults. Throughout Year 9, students learn about self, community and 21st. century life skills including resilience, a growth mindset and having a purpose beyond self. By the end of Year 9, students are prepared to step confidently into Senior School. They have developed strong foundations in learning, wellbeing and self‑management and a clearer sense of who they are as learners and young people.
Middle School at Kimberley College is a place to belong, to try, and to grow.
